Mayra Jenzer studied art history and German literature and is concerned with queer theories and gender topics, which Mayra transfers to the sphere of art and culture. In a conversation with artist and art educator Catherin Schöberl, they talk about the art world, its patriarchal imprints, and feminist concerns. The podcast links the theoretical points of view with concrete locations in Basel and invites the listener to take an audio walk through the city.

Episode 1: Language, Art and Feminism

In today’s episode, we talk about language and explore the questions of the power of speech, how feminist concerns can be translated into linguistic forms, and which power relations are deeply embedded in our language. Together with our guest Prof. Dr. Martin Luginbühl from the German Seminar at the University of Basel, we talk about gender-sensitive linguistic forms, neopronouns and the social role of the category “gender”.

We will walk from the Professors’ Gallery in the Natural History Museum, to the Basel Art Museum and finally to the Mittlere Brücke to the Helvetia statue.
