Basel goes Vienna:
Accessibility and Inclusion in Art and Culture

Philipp Mürling is an artist and student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Philipp also has a disability. He sits in a wheelchair. Since the beginning of the winter semester, on October 3, 2022, his performance “Besuch am Schillerplatz” can be seen on the stairs to the main entrance of the Academy of Fine Arts. As part of this, Mürling attempts to climb the stairs to the main entrance with difficulty.

Mayra Jenzer met him for an interview: About his performance with which the artist wants to draw attention to the discriminatory structures at the Academy of Fine Arts. And about the fact that accessibility and inclusion in the art world and in our society as a whole remain an empty promise.
