Insights Peer to Peer

Together with Visarte Region Basel and the association Out & About, DOCK has launched “Peer to Peer” to give artists, students, and curators the opportunity to exchange ideas and network on the conditions of art production at studio talks.

One of the meetings took place with artist duo stöckerselig. Here they provide insights into current challenges and expectations for further exchange.

What challenge were you currently facing in your artistic work?

Our collaboration has changed again and again over the last 35 years. What has remained the same is that EVERYTHING that is created is published under the stöckerselig label. At the very beginning, we developed a collaboration clause: Everyone is No. 1; everyone is No. 2. Today we work with such a high level of mutual trust that we no longer need crutches to lift us up.

What is currently lacking in the art world and what should change so that this is no longer the case?

Basel prides itself on being a city of art and culture. If we look at the important and large art centres, Basel’s contemporary art is not represented in them. We want to change that!

What is your hope for the next few months as part of Peer to Peer and the studio visits?

Although the reciprocal visits have come to an end, we will continue organising our group. The meetings were incredibly inspiring and it is important that we recognise and appreciate each other and therefore develop a common strength to be relevant socially, politically and as people with relevant ideas.
