Insights Peer to Peer

Together with Visarte Region Basel and the association Out & About, DOCK has launched “Peer to Peer” to give artists, students, and curators the opportunity to exchange ideas and network on the conditions of art production at studio talks.

One of the meetings took place with artist Daniel Felber. Here he provides insights into current challenges and expectations for further exchange.

What challenge are you currently facing in your artistic work?

My painting centres around the eternal transformability of the blank canvas, from concrete to associative figurative. My new visual language is more gestural and intuitive, often based on communicative themes.

Many works are in egg tempera or oil about 100 x 100 cm; I also create smaller works on paper.

What do you think is currently lacking in the art world and what should change so that this is no longer the case?

More consideration of exhibitions by increasing the curatorial team with jury members who have been drawn by chance.

What do you hope to gain from the next few months of Peer to Peer and the studio visits?

A rewarding exchange of personal statements about intensive working methods and navigating the art world. I’m also hoping for a group exhibition that grows out of our encounter.
