Studio talks on the conditions of art production

A cooperation of DOCK, Out & About and Visarte Region Basel

*

Especially in times of pandemic it became clear how crucial it is for artists to cooperate and exchange ideas in order to support each other and to explore new paths. Opportunities for exchange are also needed to reflect on one’s own practice, to network beyond one’s own circles, and to keep up to date on cultural-political events. DOCK wants to offer the art community in Basel such opportunities and, together with the association Out & About and Visarte Region Basel, is launching the “Peer to Peer” series.

Through joint meetings directly in the studios, an exchange across disciplines, ages and backgrounds is facilitated. In particular, the circumstances under which artistic production takes place are to be given space in the conversations. The talks are explicitly intended as an exchange among each other and for this reason are not open to the public.

After the registration deadline, groups of 5-7 people will be formed on the basis of the questionnaires. We will support them in organizing a first studio meeting and, if possible, accompany it with moderation and aperitif. Afterwards, the groups can organize themselves further on their own initiative.

Artists, curators, mediators and art students from Basel region can register via the following link until the registration deadline on 31.03.2023. We will consider all applications if possible; however, depending on the number, there may be additional, later rounds.

The program does not involve any costs for the participants, a membership in DOCK Archive or Visarte is not necessary, but you would support our work with your membership.

DOCK displays, connects and mediates the contemporary art scene of the Basel region. As a non-profit association, DOCK acts as a hybrid platform between art space, archive and art lending. At its core lies the physical and digital art archive with currently around 300 artists’ positions, which are continuously made visible and accessible to negotiation through exhibitions, discourse and mediation offerings. Through the public art lending service, original works can be rented and brought into one’s own walls.

The association Out & About supports and connects young professionals from the art and culture scene and publishes interviews of various initiatives, artists and creatives from the Basel region, in order to provide insights into the local cultural scene.

Visarte is the professional association of visual artists in Switzerland. It represents their interests on a political and social level. Visarte advocates good framework conditions in connection with artistic creation and advises artists. Visarte Region Basel was founded in 1867.
